With a mandated commitment to halt environmental degradation to help improve the livelihoods of women and communities, Wokike has formed a local CBO, Qalesa Environmental Conservation (QEC), under its umbrella. With 18 years of experience and recognition of the importance of wildlife conservation, Wokike wants to ensure long-term sustainability and oversight.

Community projects of QEC include the following:
  • Conserving flora and fauna in Ijara district
  • Starting a tree nursery in Bodhai to promote forest cover
  • Training local groups to protect biodiversity
  • Keeping bees and harvesting honey
  • Liasing with government ministries (environment and forestry)
  • Establishing an ethno-cultural tourist center at Lake Jirey in Ijara district
  • Working and soliciting support from Wokike
